I wanted to stay on campus for nostalgia and convenience while attending a weekend course, since I spent four years living there as an SFU alum. Trying to arrange a week-long booking online was a mess. I emailed and called for help but got no calls back, and only received an email days later. Their tips sent me back to the website, but the system wouldn't let me book a day ahead. When I called again to make a same-day weekend booking, they refused to take it by phone and told me to walk in. I gave up and booked somewhere else.

The renovated rooms look nice, though the window coverings don't block out the light. For the price, there's not much in the way of amenities. The booking process was frustrating too. I'd stayed before when parking was free; now the lot next door charges, but that wasn't disclosed during booking or even on the policy page. Google searches still advertised free parking. Management made excuses when I raised it. Charging for parking is fine if it's made clear before someone books.

The new building is in a great location, though the doors slam hard because the closers need adjustment with a hex or Allen wrench. For the elevator, remember to swipe your room key on the button.

Parking right beside the building was really convenient, and the rooms in the new building were clean and well stocked. The shower was only so-so. I found the elevator odd to use and think the first floor may have been off limits. It also needs clearer signs for the front desk, since the entrance doesn't look like a typical hotel.

For the price, this was a hidden gem. Three nights here cost substantially less than three nights at a grotty central Vancouver hotel, and it was the best place I stayed during my whole three-week trip. The building is student accommodation, but apart from students at reception asking about parcels or lock-outs, it felt like a modern hotel. The rooms are new, modern and well equipped, and it's a short walk to the SFU bus terminal for transit downtown. I was in Vancouver for work and had stayed in on-campus accommodation before, but this one was easily the best.
