Aloft by Marriott Calgary University

We won’t stay here again with our child. My husband is a platinum member and usually can get a complimentary room upgrade, but this time we only asked to switch from the queen we’d booked by mistake to a king. Even though the website showed king rooms available, the hotel kept saying they were sold out and it was a system error. Eventually, over the phone, we agreed they’d assign us an accessible room with one king bed. I explained that our toddler was three and needed to sleep between us in a king bed so she wouldn’t fall off. At check-in, the front desk agent said that having three people in the room violated city fire policy, based on my child’s age, without even asking how old she was. We’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in Calgary and around the world and never had this kind of service. In the end, the three of us had to share the queen bed for our child’s safety. We only wanted a king so we could sleep together and keep her from falling. This isn’t Marriott service at all. Horrible hospitality.

The train station is right across the street, which was especially convenient in the snow and ice, and food delivery to the hotel was easy too. I felt safe here, and there was always someone at the front to greet me when I returned. The restaurant had good choices for different preferences, and I enjoyed the food. The gym and pool were my favorite amenities. Staff were friendly, and I was comfortable during a wonderful, unforgettable stay. I’ll miss it, and the Christmas decorations were really nice.

Back in January, I had a lovely stay. The room was quiet and spacious, the location was convenient, and breakfast was excellent and included. The staff made the biggest difference. Harshi told me about some of her favorite places to visit in Calgary, and when my flight was unexpectedly cancelled, Adilla helped me find another travel arrangement. Both were warm, professional, and resourceful. I’d gladly book again if I’m in the area. :)

The pool area was great and quiet, and underground parking was a nice bonus. We also loved the rooms, the amazing staff, and the breakfast, which was awesome and well stocked. The location worked well for us. We were there during a hockey tournament and worried it might get noisy, but everyone was respectful. A great stay, and we’ll definitely be back.
