Best Western Plus Suites Downtown

The price felt right. You can pay with a debit card instead of a credit card, but as of Feb 2026 that costs $545. The breakfast room is okay, and while the coffee isn't great, at least it's free. The staff are relaxed and friendly, and clearly know their jobs. I suspect room quality might vary, though I'm not sure. The location is pretty good. There's a bus stop by the entrance, Safeway and Starbucks within walking distance, and Dollarama, Canadian Tire, and Save-on Foods down the street. Rosie's Burgers is a block away, and you'd be crazy not to eat there at least once. There are also a few Vietnamese restaurants on that block, plus a really interesting coffee shop directly across the street.

I rented a room at the downtown location, and this was the worst hotel experience I've had, including at other Best Westerns. When I called, they said they were fully booked except for one room at a high price. Their website showed otherwise, and we booked a better room for less through the site. Shady. We couldn't find the advertised parking when we arrived. This is downtown in a somewhat sketchy area, so that was a problem. Two women at the hotel struggled to communicate with me because of a clear language barrier, and seemed unfazed when they told us we'd have to park on the street. That meant getting up at 6 a.m. to move our vehicle or risk being towed. There are no snacks or concessions, just a vending machine in the basement. Creepy. I'll never go back.

The breakfast was awesome, but housekeeping really needs work. There was hair all over the unclean sheets and pillowcases, and the table was dirty too. We lost time calling and waiting for someone to replace the bedding instead of getting to rest. Not impressed.

Breakfast had plenty of choices and was kept stocked, though with so many people it was hard to find a seat. The staff stayed on top of the rush, and the front desk was pleasant. I also appreciated the quick update about the delivery service. I miss the small things hotels used to provide, like a pen, paper, attraction magazines, and a directory. A mobile directory is easier to keep updated than 200 books, though. We had a spacious two-bedroom suite, especially the living room, but the TV was tiny and so far away we moved the couch halfway across the room. That’s when we found crumbs, hair elastics, and some kind of trading card under and behind it. The beds were very firm, and we all woke with sore backs. That alone might make me choose a different hotel next time, and I’d warn others about it. The night we ordered dinner, there was no pen or notepad to write down everyone’s order. Silver Dragon was listed by the hotel as a delivery option, but when we called, they said they didn’t deliver. We also heard sirens go by more than four times in the one or two hours we waited for and ate dinner. They sounded like they were right in the room, even on the 10th floor, and the windows did little to block them. If you’re sensitive to noise while sleeping, there may be city sounds. The AC also made an irregular click, ping, or twang. I’d get used to a pattern, then it would pause and start up again. Thanks for the reply. I’d wondered about the renovation display in the lobby for 2023/2024, since our room had the new finishes but not the new furnishings. That explains why we seemed to have half the renovation.
