Sheraton Gateway Hotel In Toronto International Airport

I've stayed here twice, and both visits were great. The rooms were clean, it's close to the airport, and the service was amazing. Everyone from housekeeping to the check-in desk was friendly and accommodating. Suzanne, the bartender, made our time at the bar a great one. The restaurant was great too, and I highly recommend the double patty smash burger.

My nephew stayed overnight after arriving from Japan, and the hotel and restaurant staff were so friendly and accommodating. The rooms were modern and well appointed, and the food was delicious, especially the salmon, bisque, and fruit dessert. Parking was a little tricky to find, and it would be nice if they offered guest rates. We really appreciated that the hotel agreed to hold a special gift package from Japan that my nephew had forgotten to give us. The pickup was where things went off track. My spouse had called the manager ahead of time to say I was coming, so I was surprised when Chiba at the front desk acted standoffish and aggressively questioned why I was there. He had every right to verify my identity, but there was a polite, professional way to do that, and this wasn't it. To avoid more trouble, I asked him to speak with the manager. He seemed annoyed, but came back with the package. It didn't ruin the overall experience, though communication and his attitude need work.

The runway views were great, and my rooms were clean. Bell staff, concierge, and the front desk were consistently excellent, and transferring my luggage from room pickup to the porter service at checkout was seamless. It was a wonderful transit stay, and I'll be back. I stayed here years ago and thought the hotel was a bit drab. On a couple of recent stays while in transit, I was pleasantly surprised to see it looking polished and newly renovated, with excellent service from the staff. Getting from Terminal 1 domestic flights to the hotel is a bit of a hike and requires taking the tram. I'd suggest hiring a porter for $30 to make handling luggage much easier.

One thing I really noticed is how quiet the Sheraton is. Even with the airport nearby and long hallways full of rooms, I wasn't disturbed by any noise. We've stayed here many times while flying in and out of Toronto, in both regular king and club king rooms. The club rooms are bigger, with more bathroom amenities and better-quality towels. They also include access to the club lounge for breakfast, evening hors d'oeuvres, and refreshments. The lounge food is pretty good. On our latest trip, we tried breakfast at &More by Sheraton for the first time. The food was hot and delicious, but the real highlight was the service from three mature servers, two men and one woman. They were welcoming, friendly, and efficient, and chatted with us naturally. You could tell they enjoyed interacting with diners, which you don't find easily these days. Kudos to them! My one issue is the price. I think it's overpriced, though I guess the convenience of being right at the airport, without shuttles or dealing with the weather outside, comes at a cost.
