Four Points by Sheraton Calgary Airport

The manager’s response made an already disappointing situation worse. They were dismissive and unprofessional, wouldn’t acknowledge the inaccurate listing, and hid behind policy to refuse a cancellation, even though I booked based on that information. A reputable hotel should have corrected the issue and allowed cancellation. This property advertises itself as an airport hotel, but it’s about 20 minutes away outside rush hour, roughly 80 city blocks. That’s nowhere near what I’d reasonably expect from an airport hotel. The misleading location claim and the manager’s attitude made this a non-starter. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who needs an actual airport hotel or expects basic professionalism.

The staff were kind, but after everything that happened I felt uneasy and wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The blankets had black mold on them, though it wasn’t obvious until we got them into the light. I have asthma and had trouble breathing in the room. I think the blankets may have been the cause. I showed pictures to the front desk, and the woman seemed shocked. They offered to move us, but we were already settled, so we asked for clean blankets instead. They brought replacements, which was nice. We picked this location because it was very close to the cardiology lab, so that part was a four-star plus for us. Check-in was a nightmare because nobody had told us they don’t accept Visa Debit, and they wouldn’t accommodate a room deposit that way. I had to call a family member for a credit card, and I was grateful they helped. The room itself was nice until we saw the blankets. The elevator lurched and nearly trapped us, which was scary, and the stairwell felt like something from a horror movie. The hotel seemed neglected in some ways, and after those problems I felt very uncomfortable there.

The lift gave us trouble, but Anmol sorted it out right away. He also arranged underground parking and made check-in quick, explaining the amenities and offering local recommendations. He was attentive, courteous, and proactive throughout. His service really improved our stay, and we’ll definitely visit again.

The staff were friendly, professional, and helpful, so this isn’t a complaint about their service. My issue is the “Airport” in Four Points by Sheraton Calgary Airport, which sets inaccurate expectations. The hotel is off 16 Ave, while Calgary International Airport is at 96 Ave, around 14.2 km or an 18-minute drive on the highway. That’s about 80 blocks. It’s roughly 10 minutes from downtown, while the airport is on the far edge of the city. A traveler seeing “Airport” could reasonably expect to be close, perhaps a few minutes away, or in the airport hotel district. There are hotels right beside the airport where you can see the runways. From here, you just see the city. For a property under Marriott International and Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, the name feels misleading and hurts brand credibility. Calling it an airport hotel stretches the term to the point of being deceptive. It may be a fine hotel otherwise, but its title doesn’t accurately describe its location. If airport access is why you’re booking, stay away. The staff are great, but there are better, cheaper, and less misleading options.
