The location worked well for what I needed, but knowing how extensive the renovations were, I’d have booked somewhere else. Outside, scaffolding and tarps blocked the view, and the place felt overpriced with all that work going on. I hope they renovate the inside soon too. It looks very dated and still has that lingering smoke smell from when smoking was allowed.

The room was lovely, and the person at check-in greeted us warmly. Everything was clean, and shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion were provided. The pool is closed right now, though, and the building is being renovated. Our window faced scaffolding covered in tarps, so there was no view or fresh air, and the room felt rather dark without light coming through.

Having underground parking is a real plus in winter. The front desk service needs work, though, and staff should be trained to use their system properly. I had told them not to charge my card, but it was charged twice.

After arriving from Halifax in the snow for a conference, I found out my booking had been cancelled without anyone calling first. The receptionist said the credit card was declined. My workplace had paid, but the hotel wouldn’t take that payment online, and they also refused my credit or debit card. I can accept the policy itself, but the uncaring, inhospitable attitude and lack of notice really upset me. While I waited in the lobby trying to find another hotel, another couple discovered their booking had been cancelled too. The staff’s only alternative suggestion was a place they said wasn’t any good. I wished someone had shown a little kindness and helped sort out what felt like a small misunderstanding. Luckily, the receptionist at the Econo lodge next door was kind and suggested Alt hotel, which accepted payment from my workplace. The Alt hotel staff were also so helpful and hospitable. I won’t book a Hampton Inn again. With staff who won’t try to resolve an issue, you could end up sleeping outside. Book at your own risk.
