Homewood Suites by Hilton Calgary-Airport, Alberta, Canada

We were glad they let us check in early and accommodated us for the night after our flight was cancelled. We often stay here when we need a place by the airport, since it has an easy shuttle, Wi-Fi, hot breakfast, pool, and hot tub. The room was nice and clean, and the pillows were amazing. There was no hot water when we arrived, but staff got maintenance and a plumber on site fairly quickly. We napped while they worked, then woke to a fire alarm. It stopped, so we went back to sleep, but it went off again. I guess there had been a fire in the laundry room. Staff handled the emergency well and later left an apology note offering to make our stay more comfortable. Then they called our room at 3:57 AM, presumably by mistake for a wake-up call. I wasn’t impressed. A mixed bag overall.

The room was clean, service was great, and the front desk team at check-in were welcoming and professional. I stayed during the summer and had a very good experience until checkout. The reception staff’s attitude then was disappointing and overshadowed the rest of my stay. I’d rather not go into all the details, but in Canada we take pride in being multicultural and embracing different accents. A receptionist should make the guest experience smooth and respectful, not harder.

I couldn’t relax or sleep comfortably because the perfume smell in my room was so intense. It gave me a bad headache right away, and I’m allergic to perfumes. I paid for a room where I could rest, but instead the fragrance made it hard even to breathe. It’s left me genuinely upset and feels like my health and comfort weren’t considered. I called the front desk for help and was told all the rooms smell the same because they use a very strong air freshener. That was frustrating to hear. The booking gave no warning about heavy scents. If I’d known, I never would have booked here. This experience has completely ruined my stay.

The room had plenty of space for me and my husband, two queen beds, and a nice city view. I also got one night’s stay free, which was a big bonus. The hotel is new, clean, and well maintained, and all the staff were accommodating. My guests and I had an amazing time, and I’d recommend it to people visiting from the States. I celebrated my birthday here, and it was unforgettable. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was just right, and the team made me feel so celebrated. Staff helped with the setup and gave excellent service. Margott, the Event and Sales Coordinator, arranged what I needed before the party and made sure I had a great experience.
