Homewood Suites by Hilton Calgary Downtown

Roy in the breakfast area deserves a rave. He was gracious, helpful, and full of useful information, and the breakfast was top notch. Thanks for a lovely start to the New Year. I’ve stayed at many Hilton properties, and this was easily my favorite. The room was cozy and had plenty of amenities. If you can, upgrade to a suite. They even set up the TV to greet you by name when you walk in, which felt personal and inviting.

I’ve stayed at the Homewood Suites in Calgary twice, and both visits have been great. The hotel is beautiful, spacious, spotless, and comfortable. The lounge and restaurant inside are excellent too, with tasty food and a relaxed, welcoming feel. Service and amenities are great, and despite one concern, I plan to stay again. The streets nearby are pleasant and easy to get around, but there are quite a few displaced people in the area, especially near the city library. I saw police helping some people nearby, and the neighborhood can feel uncomfortable at times, particularly at night. I can see the city is working to clean things up, and I appreciate those efforts. I’d suggest exploring the area during the day instead of late at night.

While dropping my brother off at the hotel, I left my vehicle in the designated lot for about five minutes. In that short time, someone smashed the driver-side window and took items from inside. For a property charging premium rates, I expected better security. It’s concerning that this happened on hotel property so quickly, and guests and visitors should be able to feel their vehicles are reasonably safe there. I hope management takes security more seriously.

Breakfast was fresh, filling, and had a great selection, and the staff were attentive and lovely. Our room at Homewood Suites was large, clean, and quiet apart from the c-train. The bed wasn’t very comfortable, and the c-train runs until 2am, so I think the website should mention how loud it gets. We’d stay again, but would ask for a room farther from the c-train.
