Sandman Signature Calgary Downtown Hotel

The loud surroundings were the main reason I didn't give this stay five stars. Even from the 15th floor I could hear traffic, streetcars, construction, sirens, planes, and a pigeon on the windowsill. It sounded like the pigeon was inside the room. I'm not a light sleeper, but it was still very noisy, so bring earplugs if you're sensitive to sound. The room was clean and comfortable, with a well-planned layout, attractive decor, clean furniture, and a bed with both soft and firm pillows. There were robes, free WiFi, a decent TV, a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and kettle. The staff were friendly, and check-in was quick. I appreciated staying at a Canadian-owned and operated hotel, too. The downtown location is handy, and Moxies in the hotel offers room service. The front desk gave me a $10-off coupon, which was nice. Housekeeping only comes if you hang the request on your door by 10 am. I liked that for a solo trip when I didn't need service. There were only two coffee packets, though, and a couple more cups would have helped. I used one cup for my two morning coffees and wanted tea that evening, which would have left me without a cup for the next morning unless I called down for one. I wasn't keen on the rain-head shower either. It left soap and products on the shower floor, and the surface was quite slippery the next day. Still, it's a clean, comfortable, well-located hotel with great staff. The noisy location was the one real drawback.

The service was amazing, and everyone at reception was helpful. We had a family room and a double room; one of them was upgraded to a huge, suite-like space with big windows and stunning views. The rooms were a very good size. We stayed last year and would strongly recommend it. The location is extremely convenient, close to everything, and the restaurant serves really good food.

The pool and hot tub are amazing, and the price is very reasonable for what you get. I've stayed several times, mostly because of the location, and the hotel has remained clean and modern over the years. It's right outside a C-Train station. You can hear the train at odd hours, but it's quite tolerable indoors. I haven't spoken much with staff, though they've been professional and helpful when I have.

Aman really made our first trip to Canada memorable. Knowing we'd had a long flight, he arranged an early check-in so we could rest. After we got settled, he called to see how we were doing. That kind of personal care is rare, and he went well beyond what he needed to do. Our room was spacious, had a great view, and the bed was super comfortable. The amenities were excellent too, with a relaxing whirlpool, a decent-sized gym, and a big pool. I'll absolutely be back.
