The house has a lot of history in it, from the period pieces to the music recording room, and there was even a real Emily Carr painting in our room. We enjoyed the pretty grounds and the manor's charm, and the owner greeted us warmly. It was well kept and very cute. We had to leave too early to try breakfast, and I wish we'd stayed longer to explore. It’s an old manor, so expect stairs and thin walls, but those are part of its character. The property sits on a street by the lake, and I’d still recommend a stay.

Mark made our holiday feel extra special. He was personable, generous, and welcoming, and his cooking is worth getting out of bed for. The dining room is the prettiest, most picturesque I’ve seen at a B&B, and the grounds are lovely to tour. The enclosed widow's walk, with windows on all four sides, was my favorite spot in the mansion for reading or watching a movie. Every room is great, and the Coal Baron's room is exquisite, whether you're a couple or on your own. It feels like old-world aristocracy with the warmth of home. A wedding or getaway with someone special would make a cherished memory. On a scale of 0 to 3, I’d give it a 25.

Inside, the house is exquisite, with warm rooms and period furniture that suits its age. Our room was adequate, with a 40’s-style bathroom and windows that let in a breeze to cool and ventilate it. Breakfast was good, and it changed each day during our three-day stay. The grounds and exterior looked like they could use a couple of days of professional landscaping and some improvement. Maritime weather is harsh, so perhaps a refurbishment is planned for next year. I’d have liked to learn more about the home’s history, including whether it once had servants’ quarters. We also believe it was once a destination restaurant, and would have liked to see the view from the “widows walk”.

I attended a Wessington there, and the place looked in rough shape, almost like it should have been abandoned. There was a lot of work being done, though I’m not sure whether the couple knew about that when they booked. Parking was limited, and the owner didn’t want anyone parking on the lawn. If your car ended up behind others in an emergency, getting out could have been very difficult.

The house and grounds are beautiful, and Nonie and Eugene were wonderful hosts. Put this place on your travel itinerary!
