Travelodge by Wyndham Cambridge - Waterloo

The room was badly run down for the price. The sliding door leading outside from the main floor rooms DOES NOT LOCK, and their fix was a bathroom-stall-style barrel lock. The tub was rusting, the toilet only flushed about half the time, and the furniture looked like it had been picked up off the side of the road. Their complimentary “breakfast” was an apple or banana, granola bar, juice box, and tiny yogurt. Nobody from the front desk was around at checkout, so we had to find a cleaner who told us to leave the key on the counter, where anyone could presumably take it. Absolutely abysmal.

The room was fine after I got the temperature sorted out, though it was far too warm when I first walked in. Make sure you know where the controls are, since the temperature may not suit you or the previous guest. For the price, the rooms and amenities are appropriate. Breakfast is a juice box, yogurt, granola bar, apple, banana, and small cups of coffee and tea. As far as I know you can take as much as you like, though they may complain if you keep stocking up and going upstairs. There’s no coffee maker in the unit, but I was told unlimited coffee is available in the lobby, always?? Bring a huge travel mug, I suppose. Wi-Fi is open with no password, so I suggest using your own data plan. The attached Indian restaurant was closed on Xmas day, so I can’t comment on it, though there are other restaurants in the area. There are cash snack machines on site, and a surprising number of adult toy stores within 100 metres.

The biggest concern was a serious room security failure. Around 10:30 p.m., another couple tried to unlock room 127 with a key card the front desk had given them. A few minutes later, a man claiming to be the front desk agent arrived in pajamas. We didn’t open the door at first because he didn’t look like a hotel employee. He said the system “hadn’t updated our reservation.” I was with my husband, and can’t imagine how unsafe I’d have felt alone. We raised it with both the front desk and hotel manager, but nothing was resolved. The rest of the stay, October 11-12, was deeply disappointing too. The bathroom had mold and a crooked faucet falling out, and the couch was old and worn. I could overlook cosmetic problems, but not the security issue. Breakfast sandwiches were labeled as packed in March 2025, which seemed impossible and extremely concerning. I asked for a refund over the multiple problems, but the hotel did nothing. Thankfully, I booked through Scene+ Travel and at least got points from them; otherwise it would have been a complete loss. This felt unsafe and disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. I hope management takes this seriously and prevents it happening to future guests.

Decent enough, with typical rooms and helpful, nice front desk staff. Breakfast includes coffee, tea, an apple, banana, yogurt, and breakfast sandwiches.
