Chateau Canmore

The pool, outdoor hot tub, sauna, and attached breakfast restaurant made for a great stay. My superior king suite was very clean and had a great layout, though the rooms are a bit outdated. I was surprised by a $120 pet fee that hadn’t been disclosed on the website, which I found frustrating.

We liked the location and found the beds comfortable. The train tracks are directly behind the hotel, but we barely heard them, even though I’m a light sleeper. Staff seemed nice overall, and when we asked for fresh towels while we were out, they also refreshed the bathroom and changed the sheets. It was nice coming back to that after a long hike. We had a king suite. It looked like room renovations were underway, since there was nothing on the walls. The couch was uncomfortable, and a mirror in the main room and hooks for towels in the bathroom would help. Those are minor nitpicks, though. It was a nice hotel, and we’d stay again if we’re back in the area. It’ll be even better once they finish the little details in each room.

It was an alright stay. The hotel and room were clean, and staff were friendly enough. I didn’t get to check out the pool. Renovations on the third floor are a good thing, but workers left tools, equipment, and materials in the hallway. An extension cord was lying across the hall untaped, which was a tripping hazard. It would’ve been nice if the front desk had told us about the renovations. The liquor store at the back of the building was interesting.

The parking lot was a mess with dog shit everywhere. Inside, everything felt dirty and in need of a thorough cleaning. The rooms were outdated and uncomfortable, and the hotel photos online don’t match what we found. There was no airflow apart from the window HVAC unit. It stayed at 26 degrees in our room the whole time, even with the window open in January. The mini fridge froze all the food we’d brought to save money on restaurants. There was no soundproofing, so we could hear conversations in the next room. Disgusting stay. Canmore has plenty of other good options, skip this one.
