We got a second-floor room with a bunk and a double bed for next to nothing during peak season. It was a great setup for skiing at Castle, with the lift just a short walk away in the morning. The place is pretty bare bones, but I like having a low-service option on the hill at a comparatively cheap price. The room did get blisteringly hot at night, and opening the window or turning down the thermostat barely helped. Still, I recommend it.

Fresh snow overnight made for great skiing on our visit, and the hill was quiet, probably because it’s over two hours from Calgary. It was my first time at this mountain, and there were plenty of runs to challenge most skiers.

For GDT hikers passing through, the hostel has a common area with a kitchen, and it’s a nice place to stay. The staff are welcoming and hospitable.

We found deer roaming the streets when we went for a walk, with mountains and trees all around. It’s a gorgeous setting. There are a few food options in town, though eating in Pincher Creek or bringing snacks is probably your best bet. This hostel/hotel has a different feel from most hotels. Our room was nice and relatively quiet in the down season, and the bunk bed was easily the coolest part. I’d definitely go back.

There’s a big group area and gear lockers downstairs, and it’s easy to find someone interesting to chat with. The duvets are cozy, and the place is clean. You can tell they put care into keeping it enjoyable. Don’t miss the amazing wood stove sauna out back.
