The Hotel on Pownal

Looking at a few photos from our trip recently brought back wonderful memories of downtown Charlettown. We stayed at the Pownal a few years ago and loved the room, the cleanliness, and the location. The hotel had such a comfortable, luxurious feel, and breakfast was great too. Everything about our stay there was just right.

The breakfast, staff, amenities, and location were all good. The experience was satisfactory, but my room needed attention. The phone didn't work, and although I reported it, nothing was done. The bathroom fan needs work as well. The bed's box springs squeaked when getting in or out, though they were fine while sleeping, and the bed was poorly made. The sectional carpeting needs to be secured better. Internet was intermittent on our first night. There are no elevators, which was a problem for some of the seniors in our group.

We've stayed here many times, but this visit was really disappointing. The staff were great and the location is perfect. The room, though, was old and poorly kept: the sheer curtain on the left was ripped to shreds, there were salt and rocks all over the floor, and wrappers left by the previous guest. The caulking was such a mess that I could have done a better job. Breakfast was disgusting, with weak coffee, just one boiled egg, two slices of white bread for toast, and no orange juice. This was probably our last trip here.

Quiet, clean, and dog friendly, this is a place we'd happily return to when we're back on the Island. It's a quick walk from the heart of Downtown Charlottetown to anything you'd want to see or do, with plenty of good places to eat nearby. Staff know the area and helped point us toward what we were looking for. They were also incredibly helpful in making sure our stay went well.
