The strong Wi-Fi and easy access with number pads instead of key cards were both nice. There’s plenty of parking behind the building, and breakfast runs from 8-9am. The rooms were comfortable, and the building is beautiful. I’d worried the floors might creak or the walls might be paper thin, but neither was an issue. Staff were kind and friendly. One important thing to know: this hotel isn’t wheelchair accessible, and you have to climb stairs just to enter.

We spent five days here and would happily come back. Cindy was wonderful at breakfast, always upbeat and helpful, and made eggs exactly how we wanted them. The dining table seats 16, and breakfast was very nice. Our room was comfortable, with a bed and pillows that were just right, not too soft. The Inn is beautiful, warm, and very well kept. Lucy greeted us on arrival and was delightful, with useful ideas for places to eat and see. Thanks to all the staff.

Breakfast is served from 8 to 9 in a dining room that feels like stepping back into the 1920s, and the house itself is beautiful. This is a charming B&B in a heritage building, where Cindy makes the stay feel personal. The rooms are luxurious, with attractive reproduction furniture and fixtures, and comfortable beds with warm duvets for chilly spring and fall nights. It’s only a few blocks from downtown and the waterfront, with lots of restaurants and attractions nearby. There’s plenty of parking and easy access to highways leading to the wood island ferry. Most of the island is about 45 minutes away.

EDIT: The owner’s response blamed my discomfort on my surgery, as if it had been recent. It was 10 years ago. We’ve travelled plenty since then and never run into this problem, because other hotels answered a straightforward question honestly. My husband was lied to. If we’d been told the truth, we wouldn’t have booked. That’s the problem. My husband reserved a room for the start of our 10-day PEI trip, and we’d also booked a second stay for our return to Charlottetown. We cancelled that later booking and found another place. The hotel’s exterior is beautiful, but the interior rooms and furniture don’t match it. There are lots of rather tacky replicas and plastic; if you want genuine antiques and a period feel, look elsewhere. The mattress issue derailed our vacation. I have a chronic pain condition and a spinal fusion, so a soft bed can be a nightmare. Before booking, my husband called to ask if the mattress was firm. He always checks when we travel, and we’ve never had trouble before. He clearly explained that a pain flare can leave me debilitated for weeks or even months. They assured him the mattress was firm and we’d be fine. It wasn’t a trivial question, and it felt like they just said what he wanted to hear to get the booking. The bed had no support and a thick pillowtop. I spent the night pacing or desperately trying to get comfortable, and even my husband, who has no back or other health problems, woke with a sore back. There’s no way that mattress could be called firm. Between us, we got about an hour of sleep. It’s now almost a week since our stay and I’m still in a terrible flare, which has affected all our other vacation plans. We feel we were misled, and cancelled our second booking right away. Even without the mattress problem, this place isn’t worth the money. Book somewhere else.

Cindy, the manager, made us feel welcome without hovering, and breakfast with the other guests each day was a nice chance to meet fellow travellers and swap ideas. The Prince Inn gave us a great B&B stay, balancing privacy with a friendly atmosphere, elegance with comfort, and quiet with a location near everything. It’s a historic, beautiful, tasteful building, but the plumbing, Wi-Fi, AC, and TV all worked. Parking was easy and free, too. We’ll stay with Cindy again whenever we’re back in PEI.
