The rooms are still quite nice, and much as they were before, but the experience has slipped from what we remember. We’ve been coming for well over ten years, and about 18 years ago that nine-course tasting menu was one of the best meals we’d ever had. This time we skipped dinner. In the morning I expected the usual hot breakfast, but it was set out buffet-style. We happily took the crepes, though I wasn’t entirely sure the syrup was maple. The fruit salad was very fresh and better than the versions at places that use cheap fruit and odd preservative syrup. It’s still very good all around, just not top-notch like it used to be.

The cozy atmosphere was nice, but the food left me disappointed 😔 My meat pie was dry and completely tasteless, and the waiter described the ketchup as homemade, though it was much too sweet. They brought cold bread with packaged butter. With the prices and all the amazing restaurants in Quebec City, this was underwhelming.

The staff are friendly and courteous, and there are antiques throughout alongside modern amenities. Prices are great, too. Breakfast comes with crepes and their own maple syrup. My room’s coffee was excellent and included, though as a big tea drinker I found it a bit trying to have to ask for tea. One tip: take a walk or drive along historic Ste. Anne, the oldest street in North America. Outstanding in every way.

We had the nine-course meal, and the pacing and presentation were lovely. The veal carpaccio, cheese in pastry, pea soup, beef tenderloin, and strawberry shortcake were especially incredible. Everything about the evening felt dreamy, with a warm atmosphere and really helpful service, especially since we speak English. 10/10, would recommend!
