Laurie's Inn

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel I should warn people. The room smelled musty, the bedding was stained, and the little shampoo and soap bottles had been used and were half empty. The TV sat on a stand covered in old carpet that looked like a cat scratching post. I have environmental allergies, and within minutes my eyes and throat were scratchy and I was coughing. The third person in our group also had an allergic reaction. The building is called "Harbourview," but you can barely see the harbour; the view is of another rundown building. The place didn't look like the online pictures at all: it was rundown, with damaged stairs, a key that didn't work, and cinder blocks and wood lying around. My friend told the staff we couldn't stay. They offered another room, but it smelled the same, so we left. She was told there could be no refund because the booking was through Booking.com. My friend contacted Booking.com, but Laurie's Inn still refused to refund us, leaving us out over $200 for a room we never used. Luckily we found a room at Ocean View down the road at short notice. It was lovely, clean, had an actual ocean view, and cost less than Laurie's. It was worth every penny. This place was just bad all around.

😡😡😡😡😡 We picked this hotel because breakfast was listed as included, but nobody told us at check-in that it wasn't available. We ended up paying $50 for breakfast, and the administrator didn't resolve the issue or compensate us. The rooms were clean but looked very, very old. For this price, I wouldn't recommend it; there are much better options.

The woman at reception was lovely and very friendly, but I wouldn't recommend this place. The room had a strong mould smell, and I started coughing soon after arriving. I was still coughing 24 hours after we left, and we should have refused the room. The floors were filthy, the window AC was really loud, and the beds were clean and okay. Some curtain hooks were missing, so the curtains didn't hang right. The stove-up unit door had a textured window to block the view, but I checked at night and you could still see into the room. The hotel looks one step away from closing.

The only good things I can say are that it's close to the Skyline Trail and Aucoin Bakery, on the way to the trail. That bakery is amazing; if you like sourdough, it's the best loaf I've ever had. The motel itself feels like it could close any day. The rooms are run down and haven't been updated in years, apart from oddly fancy monogrammed towels. The floors were filthy, and even after I asked to have them cleaned, they were still dirty, or at least I think they cleaned them. The TV didn't work, despite my having them come fix it on the first day. The window AC was loud and barely cooled the room. It smelled musty and unpleasant. I found a used coffee filter in the coffee maker and an unfolded blanket stuffed in a drawer. The bedding seemed clean and fresh, but the mattresses were worn out with hard edges. The breakfast room and kitchen looked permanently closed, and there's no food at this motel. I can't imagine how recent positive reviews are legitimate.
