We only wish we’d booked more time. We stayed in a modern, updated three-bedroom house with a lovely deck looking out over the river, and it was the best place we stayed in Canada at a very fair price. With kids, I’d book at least two nights: there’s a lake within walking distance for swimming. In peak season, Wells Gray was quieter and even nicer than Jasper.

It feels more relaxing than a typical hotel, even though the house is run like one. We were right by the river, with the sound of a babbling brook outside the bedroom window, and Dutch Lake was an easy walk away.

The riverside private area was lovely, and the TV having AppleTV and Netflix was a nice extra. We had a comfortable night here as a stopover. Our ground-floor space had a lounge at the entrance, with stairs down to the bathroom and two bedrooms. It looked lovely and modern, with fresh carpet and nice decor. The only kitchen items were a coffee maker and small fridge. There were bugs along the carpet edges in our bedroom, and we could hear every word and footstep from the family staying in the other suite. Better soundproofing would help.

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house right beside the river. The interiors felt brand new and were tastefully decorated. There was a terrace at the house and another by the riverside.
