Vancouver Yuelai Guesthouse

We left relieved after a very stressful three-night stay. Our large extended family, two seniors, seven adults and two toddlers aged three and one, had booked all four rooms for our trip to BC, with Vancouver as one stop. We’re generally well-behaved and have always had excellent reviews from hosts. Here, the owner’s son was our host, and he was rude, misbehaved and dishonest, even with the toddler. The location and price were great, but they didn’t make up for how unwelcome we felt. I wouldn’t recommend this place to families. An adult couple who mostly stays out or in their room might find it worthwhile, but keep proof of everything. We were told to pay cash when we arrived, which we did, and offered a $50 discount if we cancelled through the booking site, which we declined. The host also said prices had gone up, but we were booked through a proper website and ignored that. After the stay, he told the site we’d never arrived. We had photos and videos of the property when we left, plus the texts from before arrival showing his request for cash. His suspicious behaviour had already made us document things. The rooms were relatively clean, though dusty, and the bathrooms were clean. There was Wi-Fi, a TV without cable that could use streaming with your own login, and an electric kettle in every room. A couple of rooms had hair dryers. Two towels per room for three nights were enough for us. There was no iron in any room and no air conditioning. One room had a small personal fan, and the largest room with two beds got quite hot. Laundry was available. Kitchen use was very limited, despite our confirming light cooking was allowed. There was just one mini fridge for all guests, though that wasn’t an issue since only our family was staying there. The common dining area couldn’t be used by everyone at once, so we weren’t allowed to eat together. We’d originally been told it was open until 11 pm. We usually left at 10 or 11 in the morning and returned after dinner around 8 or 9. If anyone went to the common room before the 11 pm curfew, the host rudely told us to go back to our rooms, even though most of us were over 30. When we had breakfast or tea and coffee there, he kept walking around every five minutes for no genuine reason. My sister-in-law was ordered to put all our shoes on the rack outside, although we’d lined them up neatly. No one said this to the men or when some of us were together. On our last night, we were ordered out before 10 am, despite the house rules saying noon and the website listing checkout at 11 pm. We were also told light cooking wasn’t allowed that last day, and confronted for not washing the hosts’ dirty dishes. We hadn’t used those, only a frying pan and spatula, which we washed and put back where they belonged.

We had a peaceful six-night stay and were completely satisfied. The room was cozy and spacious, the location was great with major shops and restaurants nearby, and there was a laundry room too. The owners were kind. Ms. Jennifer was always smiling and helped whenever I needed anything. God bless the family. I’d gladly recommend booking a room for a stay in the Vancouver area.

For the price, this is a good spot, and it’s not far from a main street.
