The girls were hit on by people at a Christmas party before the elevator emergency, and some party guests offered drinks to underage players. Security and hotel staff knew about it, but when parents complained, nothing was done. They kept favoring the party guests over the minor girls volleyball team despite repeated concerns. Security also wouldn’t let the girls use the stairs because they said it would interfere with the party. Later, security directed the team not to use the stairs and packed 16 girls into an elevator. It broke down under the weight, trapping them for about an hour. The front desk said it needed manager approval before calling the fire department; 20 minutes passed, and parents ended up making the call. After the fire department rescued the girls, management told them to return to their rooms and stay there for the rest of the night, even though they hadn’t caused problems. No one apologized or even offered them water. Being stuck in a hot, cramped elevator with no room to sit and barely breathable air was awful, and then the staff gave them attitude when they got out. I wouldn’t stay here even if it were free. Management seemed rude, clueless, undertrained, and completely incompetent. My daughter, her teammates, and the parents traveling with them had a worse experience than I could have imagined. I’ve stayed at hundreds of hotels across North America and this was by far the worst. The management reflects badly on ownership for backing them. This has affected a lot of people, word is spreading fast, and the lost revenue will be significant. This hotel isn’t safe.

The front desk woman was pleasant and helpful, but our room hadn’t been cleaned. The beds looked slept in, there was long hair on the sheets, and the bathroom was a mess. I have mobility issues, and our room was upstairs while the elevator was out of order. My husband went looking for ice and found the machine on the third floor. There’s a fish smell too. I was not impressed, and I’ll never stay here again, though I hate leaving a bad review.

I brought a lot of paperwork and needed a table in the room for my computer, printer, and other things. We planned to stay a few nights and return four or five times over the next year, but they said they couldn’t provide one. I knew they could, since on a previous stay they’d set me up with a table and a more comfortable chair. I spent several more nights in Corner Brook after that, but chose other hotels where I could work comfortably.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices seemed okay, but the food I tried was awful. It tasted like it had been prepared days or even weeks earlier and simply reheated. The place is severely dated and poorly maintained. The interiors look unchanged since the late 60s, and the bathroom fixtures seem to be the same ones from when I first stayed here over 40 years ago. I should have asked for a refund. I’ll never stay here again. Pure crap.
