Heritage Inn Hotel & Convention Centre Cranbrook

The front desk person was friendly and helpful, and the bathroom was clean. That was about the good of it. The place is old and run down, and the bed didn’t look freshly made when I checked in. In daylight, I saw worn, stained carpets and was glad I’d kept my socks on. The heating system clicked and clacked all night. I learned the hotel had housed unhoused people over the winter, which is admirable, but upkeep protocols need to be in place. Breakfast was good, though anything over $16 costs extra, so it’s not really free or included. Given the state of the place, I’m pretty certain there hasn’t been a convention here in decades. My first time in Cranbrook, and I’d look at other options next time.

The friendly staff were definitely the best part. The woman at check-in was so sweet, and our waitress was wonderful and patient. The food was very good too. Breakfast came as restaurant vouchers for up to $16, despite the listing saying it was included. Nothing on the adult menu was under $16, so be ready to skip a drink or pay extra. Getting around was awkward: there’s no elevator and stairs everywhere. We were on the main floor, but still had a few steps down to our room, so we couldn’t use the luggage cart with all our stuff. The place needs a major update, and the stale cigarette smell lingers. Our shower was hard to get to the right temperature and shut off, and my kids struggled with it. Some pool tiles were falling off, and the hot tub was barely warm. It was also extremely loud, with music in the hallways and a train passing what felt like every 15 minutes. It was unbelievably loud, and none of us slept well. I wouldn’t stay again.

The best part was breakfast, good-quality food included with the room. The building needs to be cleaner inside, and the rooms need updating. It’s an older place, and guests partying outside at the Heritage Inn weren’t asked to quiet down. They don’t answer the phone either. I tried calling multiple times for 15 minutes straight. I’d recommend staying somewhere else.

The rooms were quiet, the beds were great, and staff were great too. The pool was clean and open until 10. Breakfast was good, and the room came with a voucher for the buffet, not ordered items.
