Lazy Bear Lodge

We came with our bike club for the July long weekend and were so happy with the place. The owners treat guests like family, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The pool was just right in the 30-plus-degree heat. Our room was still being updated, but it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I've got nothing but good things to say about this place.

The owners and staff are super friendly, the rooms are clean, the bed is soft, and the price is great. I've stayed here twice now and will keep coming back when I'm passing through. It's biker friendly and close to amenities, with a 7-11 and 420 shop a couple of blocks away, among other things. The building is a bit dated, and traffic can be noisy at times. I'd put the noise at 3-4 out of 10, though it may feel louder to some. If you can handle a little noise and want friendly, inexpensive lodging, this is the place. The pool looks like it'd be lots of fun for kids in summer.

The motel exterior is cute, with a clean pool, flowers, bear statues, and an adorable hotel cat with big paws. The bathroom and towels were clean, the carpet had been vacuumed, and the drawers, shelves, fridge, and microwave were clean. There was also a coffee maker in the room. But the door looked like it had been kicked in. We had to slam it to shut, it sat loose without a tight seal, and the striker screws were loose, with one falling right out. A safe, properly closing door doesn't seem like too much to ask. The box springs had no sheet over them, and their yellowed, gross stains were visible. The comforters looked like they were from the 90s and had hairs all over the undersides. I threw them on a chair. The rest of the bed and pillows were clean and hair-free, but the mattress itself had no cover, just two fitted sheets. The carpets need shampooing too. It's not a dive, but it's not great. I wouldn't stay again.

We're a group of hikers from Calgary who came to summit Mt Fisher in Cranbrook, and we loved every minute of our stay. The balcony was wide enough for our yoga routine. We'd planned to do it by the pool, but it rained all Sunday, so we were glad to have the space on the balcony instead. The kitchen and free use of the BBQ helped us save money, and the pool was perfect for cooling off. The staff are very friendly. Can't wait to come back for two nights in August.
