Best Western Thunder Bay Crossroads

I was traveling from the east coast to the west under pretty stressful circumstances, and this hotel felt clean, comfortable, and cozy for me and my fur baby. Everyone was kind, genuine, and accommodating. Myles at the front desk especially made check-in memorable. He was professional, compassionate, and delightful, and so patient and warm. Breakfast had a good amount of variety, and the women serving it were helpful and nice. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

The room cost $300 and I barely slept. Pipes were so loud that someone using water would wake me up, and doors sounded like they were slamming. The staff weren't nice, and I didn't feel welcome or comfortable. When I asked for the Best Western rewards price, they charged me thirty dollars extra instead. I like Best Western, but this branch does the brand a disservice. You expect a certain standard from that name, and this felt like a motel charging more just because of the sign.

The hotel breakfast was good, the Wi-Fi worked well, and the AC got nice and cold. Our room was clean and spacious, though being right beside the breakfast area in room 307 made the morning a bit loud. The young man who checked us in gave poor service. We stayed here on our drive up the north shore because it was $100 cheaper than any of the USA hotels.

At the breakfast buffet, a staff member named Karen acted rudely and unprofessionally. I only changed the toaster setting to “light” because that's how I like my toast. She came over, yelled at me in front of other guests, and turned it up to high, burning my toast. When I put the burnt toast in the bin, she mocked me to a colleague for being rude, even though I hadn't said anything to her. That kind of confrontational, disrespectful behavior is unacceptable in hospitality. She could have helped or explained things politely. Management needs to address staff training and customer service. Based on this experience, I don't recommend staying here.
