Holiday Inn Motel

We arrived around 11:30pm and the staff quickly and kindly got my family into two rooms, 8 and 5. Both were clean and very quiet, and I liked that they had different layouts. I left a small item behind in one room, called the next day while I was still in town, and they had it. I went back and picked it up, which was very nice.

Immaculately clean, charming, and inexpensive. The room is small, but it’s well appointed, with live plants in the window, dust-free decorations, and plenty of chairs and side tables for your things. Great value in Thunder Bay, especially on a Northern Ontario Medical Grant budget. I’ll definitely stay again.

The room smelled strongly of urine, the bath was disgusting, and the linens had a yellow tint. We were itching all over before we’d even been there an hour. They said it was the last room, but when we confronted the owner, other rooms suddenly became available. Other guests had left less than an hour before us, too. Make your own conclusion. At least we got half our money back.

I expected just the basics from a budget motel, but Holiday Inn Motel was a pleasant surprise. The owner was genuinely kind even at 11 at night, and my room had been freshly renovated. It was clean and fresh smelling, with a comfortable bed, new vanity, fixtures and switches in the washroom, plus a flat screen and a nice metal accent lamp. It felt on par with a big hotel without leaving a big hole in your wallet. I could easily stay a week or longer, and I’d gladly return if I’m passing through again.
