Sandman Hotel Cranbrook

The maintenance man seems to be missing, perhaps at the other hotel where they value and pay him. My whole team noticed that the washroom fans didn’t work, leaving rooms smelling like stale crap even after running them for hours. Mice roam around looking for crumbs, and broken plumbing fixtures aren’t being found and repaired. This wouldn’t be my first choice. The lovely staff seem to suffer in silence. 😢

The shower kept switching from warm to freezing, so it wouldn’t stay hot. Train noise may also keep you up. The windows shook and rattled all night, and nobody was available at the front desk when I tried to get help. Worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Don’t waste your money.

I’ve been working in the area for a few weeks and have told the front desk several times about mice in the walls. You can hear them all night. There was also a hole in the cupboard, and at least one mouse got into the kitchen cupboards and chewed through my food. No one offered to cover the contaminated food. Staff don’t seem to care about customer service. I also asked for the room to be cleaned, the garbage emptied, and traps placed in the cupboards, but none of that has been done. I don’t recommend this place. Update: The response to this review was generic and a joke. There’s been no customer service or compensation for food contaminated by mice. Several people in our group have reported seeing mice run across the floors, and there’s still no solution. Disgusting!

At first, the stay felt like “sweat lodge chic.” In 30-degree weather, the A/C barely worked, which was miserable for two women having hot flashes, and the pool being out of order meant we couldn’t cool off there either. Once the unit started blowing hot air, we asked the front desk if anything could be done. The staff really came through: they moved us to a room with working A/C, which was bliss, and gave us a free night without us asking. We were just glad to have air conditioning. That turned things around completely, and the stay ended up being really enjoyable. Four stars for how they handled it.
