The Baker Hotel

The Baker has the vintage updates and art deco feel of a charming historic building, along with modern comforts. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and pretty, and you can have coffee and kitchenettes if you want. It’s also affordable and central to downtown Cranbrook, which made it easy to explore town and try different cuisines. I’ve tried several hotels in the area and finally stayed here when I was very unwell. The staff treated me with so much kindness and professionalism. The service was outstanding, and I can’t say enough about the personable care I received. Thank you so much, Shivam. Zoe, you’re a delight. They really made me feel at home, and I highly recommend their hospitality.

I made an honest mistake when booking through Booking.com and chose the wrong date. I took full responsibility right away. When I spoke with Shivan, the General Manager, I wasn’t asking for a refund, just some flexibility. Even a credit toward a future stay would’ve meant a lot, since I pass through Cranbrook regularly. He told me it wasn’t his problem and nothing would be done. There was no effort to help or find a solution, just a flat refusal. I understand there are policies, but leadership should allow for some discretion and empathy. The lack of compassion was disappointing. If you book here, check your dates three times. Don’t expect understanding if you make an honest mistake.

The front desk woman, whose name I’ve forgotten, was one of the most pleasant people I’ve met, and the staff were really helpful when I struggled with my luggage. I stayed two separate nights in the same room and loved it. It was clean, well maintained, and well supplied: dishes, a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and television. It’s handy if you’re staying a couple of nights and don’t want to keep looking for food. Parking was manageable, and the sunken tub was a wonderful bonus. I’d definitely recommend the place and stay again.

We really liked our stay at the Baker Hotel. The room was cozy and well appointed, and the friendly young woman at check-in upgraded us from a queen to a king. There are only stairs, so keep that in mind, but if that works for you I’d highly recommend staying here.
