The meal was so meagre and disappointing that I’m glad I didn’t stay here. My girlfriend and I had come from Halifax expecting seafood in what I thought was the scallop capital of the world, supposedly the province’s best place for it. After we’d finished eating, three very loud French people were seated beside us and made a lot of noise. Since we were done, it wasn’t much of an issue, though it would have been if we were still eating. I ordered fish and chips, and my girlfriend got the scallop platter. The fish portion was large, but the batter was soft, almost like a donut, as if it had been steamed. The menu said deep-fried, but it didn’t seem that way. I lived in London, England, and this was the worst fish and chips I’ve had in my life. Her scallops were small and underwhelming too. We can get better, bigger ones in Halifax, without a 2.5-hour trip. The tourist-town prices were steep, and at that price I expected something decent. Then we waited 10 minutes for the bill while two servers were busy laughing and chatting with locals instead of serving other customers. Do better. Zero out of ten, I wouldn’t come back.

The location was the only five-star part of the experience. The scallops were okay but completely unseasoned, the vegetables were mushy and bland, and the potatoes were undercooked and underseasoned. The chowder was the one good thing on the meal. My boyfriend’s fish and chips were soggy, though he liked the fries. Our server seemed more interested in talking with a loud, rowdy table and never asked how our meals were. I’m shocked this place was recommended to us. We paid $44 for mediocre scallops and awful sides. I wish we’d gone somewhere else, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Our server was upbeat, friendly, and genuinely helpful when I asked what to order, which added a lot to dinner. We stopped at Funny Restaurant on a November evening while visiting Digby. I chose the Fish and Scallop Combo for $29, with battered deep-fried fish, five battered scallops, fries, and coleslaw. It was all hot, delicious, fresh-tasting, and perfectly cooked, with a generous portion. My partner had the Grilled Chicken Panini for $20 and said it was flavourful and well made, with a solid portion for the price. We had a great meal and would recommend Funny Restaurant to visitors in the area.

Right on the waterfront, with nice rooms. I’d come back if I’m in the area. The lobster mac was excellent and had lots of lobster. Skip the fish and chips, though, the fish was mushy and soggy.

We only came for dinner and didn’t stay in the lodging. The view, food, and service were all amazing, and the scallops were incredible. Prices were very reasonable too. Definitely recommend.
