We picked a small ground floor unit away from the waterfront on purpose because we had our dog with us. It was immaculate, cozy, and just right for a couple with a dog. There were also several cabins and other kinds of units that looked great. The place was quiet and private even with other guests around. It’s affordable, pet friendly, and well stocked, though I’d bring dish towels. The heating was great, and the TV had Roku with a good connection and lots of shows. Wifi was excellent, so I could get my work done. There’s a microwave and two hot plates on the stove. A pharmacy and small grocery store are five minutes away, Arrowhead is about 20 minutes away, and zoom Hortons is 15 minutes away. Someone was available in the lodge from 9-9 to answer questions and help out. We didn’t need assistance, though, since everything went smoothly.

The lakefront location is superb, with Huntsville and Arrowhead nearby. Our cabin was clean, and the beds and sheets were comfortable. There’s free firewood for the fireplace, and the main building has board games, a pool table, foosball, and other things to do, which is especially nice in winter. For the price, it’s still a very good option and a great deal. I’d come back for a couple of days at most, though. The Windermere cabin’s layout wasn’t great: the dining room is upstairs, and the low roof makes it uncomfortable to walk around. The hot water ran out after about 10 minutes, then came back quickly, but that’s a problem for a cabin meant for 6-8 people. The water looked yellowish, so I wouldn’t drink it. They let us know ahead of time, which was good, and bottled water is easy enough to bring. Some items were missing when we arrived, but they brought them over quickly. The kitchenware was pretty sparse too, with no baking sheet or serving dishes.

The room was clean and warm, and the heaters did their job. We spent most of our time exploring Algonquin, but did stop by the shared games room for foosball. We skipped pool this time, though we played it during a cabin stay here a couple of years ago. We stayed in A4 for a weekend. On the morning we checked out, the power went out. I’m not sure whether it was planned or unexpected. There’s a backup generator, but the water system isn’t on backup power, so my wife’s shower was cut short. The TV was also a hassle. It kept asking for the previous Google account login. Resetting it disconnected it from the facility wifi, and the guest wifi wouldn’t work through the TV. I managed to get it set up using my phone hotspot, but that TCL Google TV isn’t a good choice for a hotel. The booking.com description could include more about the amenities. It doesn’t mention the toaster, stove, pots and pans, or electric fireplace, and those aren’t shown in the photos. We’d stay again.

We had a great time and are looking forward to coming back. The cabin was bright, roomy, and very clean. Free wood without a limit was a big plus, and the kitchen had all the tools we needed. I’d recommend it.

The bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom could use a bit more shelving for putting things away, but the cabin already had everything I needed for a cozy winter break and was spotless. The fireplace became the heart of my stay, with plenty of dry wood and fire starters supplied, and it was beautifully maintained. I spent four nights at Muskoka Waterfront Retreat over Christmas. The team made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived and kept things relaxed and hospitable throughout. It’s a lovely retreat in a beautiful setting, and the dogs and I will happily return.
