Travelodge by Wyndham Edmonton West

The water slide was better than I expected for a hotel, and the WiFi was okay. The pool itself was small, though the “hot” tub was no warmer than the pool. The rest of the place felt old and worn. The elevator was out, the toilet kept running, and the mattress sagged like a hammock. Our key cards failed, and we had to return to the desk. The walls were so thin we heard a neighbour playing with the door stop and a dog barking at all hours. There were no useful outlets by the bed, and the only nearby one was so loose that plugs wouldn’t stay in. The rate we booked through travelodge.com didn’t include the package we’d bought, so the desk had to fix it when we arrived. Staff seemed completely burned out. Breakfast was limited to cereal, toast, bagels and a waffle machine, but they guarded it like it was serving lobster and caviar. The communal peanut butter jar put me off. My brother-in-law stayed nearby for the same rate and got a much better hotel. I wouldn’t come back.

The one bright spot was the man at the front desk. He did everything he could to make things better for my kids and me: moved us from double beds to queens, arranged a later checkout, and offered an extra restaurant discount. He turned what would have been a one-star review into two. The pool and waterslide were good too. But our room wasn’t ready until an hour and a half after check-in, and I was one of two people waiting for a room. At 4:30, six people were queued up with just one staff member handling the desk. When we finally got in, the room smelled bad. The bathroom door wouldn’t close, and we could hear the person next door peeing. The walls are that thin. In general, I wouldn’t stay here again.

A good budget place, and I enjoy staying here. The pool and hot tub are nice for the kids, and it’s close to everything. Last time, I had trouble getting my deposit back and had to keep calling to remind them. Hopefully it goes more smoothly this time 🙂. Other than that, it’s good 👍🏽 I’m staying in the deluxe queen room ✨️

The kids had supper from the restaurant downstairs. They said it would take 20 minutes, but after 55 minutes I went down, then waited another 15. The pool was closed, and I kept having to get my key card re-keyed. On checkout morning, at 9:45, cleaning staff came into our room while my kids were there and startled them. I was downstairs with the luggage, and checkout wasn’t until 11, so there was no reason to enter then. The room was dirty, stained and falling apart. There was rust in the sink, calcium caked on the shower head, ceiling tiles coming loose, dark marks on the rug, and the door was damaged and held together with tape. People were sitting in the stairwells, and random homeless/addics were wandering inside and outside the building. I didn’t feel safe letting my teenagers walk alone in the halls or lobby, or going alone myself. The breakfast room was small and dirty, with no bagels, fruit or muffins. The employee was rude, unprofessional and ignorant to everyone, just standing and staring. After I gave her my voucher, I helped my two kids take their breakfast upstairs. When I came back for my coffee and bagel, she wouldn’t let me in again without the voucher, even though I hadn’t gotten anything yet.
