Canadas Best Value Inn Fort St. John

My wife ended up leaving because she was getting bitten by bugs, and the owner was aggressive in his words and actions. She’s now comfortable at a clean motel 6 up the street with air conditioning. Stay away from this hotel. I hope this saves someone else from being scammed. We had booked three nights through Expedia, and the room was already paid for. My wife doesn’t speak English well, but the front desk guy took her information and charged her card anyway. When I called, he said he’d given us a better deal than Expedia and that I only needed to call them for a refund. Expedia refunded us right away, which should have been a red flag. The place is cheap and run down, but my wife wanted to stay five more nights and paid cash at $90 a night. On day two she decided to leave early because of the bugs. The owner said he’d refund two nights since it was 11:00 am, and I agreed because that seemed fair. But he refunded three nights at the original $90 rate, then wanted to charge $120 a night for the remaining three. I showed him online that I could still book the hotel for $85 a night, but he insisted the rate was now $120. He returned the $300 damage deposit and only $53 for two nights we’d paid $90 each for. I was out $270, and when I argued on the phone, the desk guy said he’d cancel the refund and I’d get nothing back.
