The booking agent eventually refunded me for the extra charge, but getting there took several hours of my time. When I arrived, the hotel had not given me the pet-friendly room I had clearly requested through the third-party agent. My confirmation notice showed the total, including the pet charge. The check-in clerk was rather rude and said it wasn’t their problem, then told me I’d have to pay another $35.00 plus tax, over $40.00 total, if I wanted a pet-friendly room. I showed him the email confirmation, but he said the agent had made a mistake and I should pay and take it up with them. When I asked why this had become my problem when it was between the hotel and its agent, he said there was nothing he could do. Choice Hotel caused a lot of unnecessary stress and did nothing to help. If you’re travelling with a pet, avoid them or expect a very unpleasant surprise.

We were on a 20-hour drive and usually just nap in the car at a rest stop. With a blizzard on, though, we stopped here for a hot shower and some sleep. The lower pet-friendly room with doors opening onto the parking lot was more expensive than the upstairs rooms. The Choice Hotel app listed a $35 pet fee, but at Comfort Inn Levis, Quebec, they told me there were no dogs and made me sign a paper. My husband was waiting in the car with our little dog. There were only a few cars in the lot, but we were stuck and desperate. It was dark, snowing heavily, and we couldn’t see on the highway. Cars and transport trucks were crashed all over. We snuck the dog in, took hot showers, slept for three hours, then left at 1 a.m.

The staff were very courteous, and breakfast had lots of choices. It can get busy, so go early. The hotel is a bit dated, but comfortable. My only complaints were that the air conditioning in our room was inconsistent and the fridge didn’t work properly.

My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel is still very well kept, even though it’s starting to show its age. Breakfast starting at 5 a.m. is a real plus for early workers and travellers, since many hotels don’t serve it until 6:30. The gentleman who checked me in was great, pretty sure his name was Norbert. I travel a lot for work and don’t often find check-in staff so friendly and attentive. It was a great experience. Great job, I’ll definitely be back.
