Norfolk Motel

We booked online the day we stayed, August 10-11, 2025, while heading to PEI. We arrived at 1:30am and left at 8:30am. Options were limited, and it cost about half what the other places did, but $120.00 CAD still wasn’t worth the experience. I should have booked better lodging ahead so we could have had some proper sleep and a clean shower. Booking and paying online was easy, and the staff member I spoke with afterward was polite and friendly. They accommodated our late arrival by leaving the door unlocked, though I realize that could have been a safety issue. Checkout was simple, we left the keys in the return box. I hope they can improve the room, because the staff seemed well-intentioned. Inside, the cigarette smell was the strongest I’ve ever encountered, and it stayed just as strong all night and into the morning. It wasn’t outside the room, only inside. The room was filthy: the inside of the door was covered in something that looked like dried blood, the shower had mold, and the floor had loose debris and caked grime in the corners. There was a missing piece of flooring between the bathroom and bedroom, with a jagged edge and exposed screw. The deadbolt latch was broken, so we locked the handle and pushed an armchair in front of the door for extra protection. The mattress and sheets were the only clean parts. Since we’d paid and it was late, we tried to sleep there. I didn’t sleep well, and my husband barely slept because he was worried about bedbugs. Thankfully, we didn’t encounter any that night and didn’t bring any home in our luggage. I don’t remember the room number, but it was around the back near a dumpster surrounded by scattered junk. There were large broken electronics stacked on a rusty wheelchair that looked like they could seriously hurt someone if they toppled. The place was relatively affordable and safe, with working A/C, a clean mattress and sheets, polite phone staff, and easy check-in and checkout, but the floors and walls were visibly filthy and the tub was moldy.

We desperately needed somewhere to stay after driving about 15 hours from Ontario to New Brunswick, so we spent the night, but I refuse to say anything good about this motel. My girlfriend had to shower in sandals and wouldn’t take them off. I sprinkled water on the floor and used a towel to sweep it so we could walk across it. The towel ended up completely black and ruined, and I’d bet my life savings the floor had never been mopped. The first room they showed us had cockroaches coming out of the bathroom, which was only about 4 feet from the bed. We walked out in horror and asked for another room. That one had mold in the wall corners and windows, about 2 mm of dust on the fan, an exposed electrical outlet hanging from the wall, and dirty, stained pillows and blanket. My girlfriend got her blanket and we slept on that. We got up early to leave as soon as possible. When I complained, the woman at the front was rude and sarcastic, saying, “well that’s all we have”. She wouldn’t give me a refund when I asked to leave. I stayed about three years ago and forgot to review it at the time because things were busy. In the three years since, I’ve told all my friends and family nothing but bad things about the place and told them not to come. I have photos showing this review is accurate, unlike some people who give it five stars.

The beds were comfy and the air conditioner worked great. The man at the front desk gave us amazing customer service. It’s an older establishment, but it seems like they’re trying to improve it.

My husband and I found it really cozy and comfortable, and we enjoyed our stay. I’d definitely recommend staying here. Thanks so much! 🙂👍
