Ramada by Wyndham Fredericton

For the price, I expected better. There were only three pillows per bed and not enough cups, plus just one bar of soap for four adults. The two shampoos and two conditioners were acceptable. The TV kept freezing on “LG - NO SIGNAL.” The bedroom carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while, with dirt and TOE NAIL CLIPPINGS on it. The bathroom fan didn't work and was full of dust bunnies. Brown water came out when I turned on the tub. The shower curtain was torn at the top, and the sink wouldn't drain properly, so I removed the stopper. The GUNK underneath was disgusting. I loved the indoor terrace with its pool, hot tub and fish pond, but that area was dirty too. There was garbage on the awning outside our balcony, and looking up, all the beams were rusted and the ceiling fans were BLACK with dirt. Pool towels are kept at the front desk, as the pool-hours signs say in very small print. And who doesn't serve bacon with breakfast? 😂

The room smelled damp as soon as we walked in. The bathroom was awful: a rusty tub, what looked like blood stains on the walls, poor drainage, mold and rust behind the toilet, and a mirror half ruined with age. There was toothpaste and hair in the sink too. The bed felt like a hammock, there was garbage on the floor, and behind the can were chunks of food and ketchup stuck to the walls. The desk was sticky. It didn't seem like any surface had been properly cleaned in a long time. I'm here with my two small children. I stayed calm at first, and they offered another room. I was hopeful, but after walking with the kids all around the hotel, the first key didn't work. I went back to the desk after waiting ten minutes and told them. The staff member came along, and finally one of the two keys worked. The new room was substantially better, but it hadn't been dusted or vacuumed properly in a while. I chose to take it because I'd rather deal with dust than blood spots, or what the inspector called “just rust ma’am,” three or four feet up the bathroom walls. I asked for a discount because the room was disgusting, and we'd had to move with no offer of help. I was told to come back in half an hour. Then they offered $25 off. I said to keep it and buy some cleaning supplies. They also offered a $50 gift card for the hotel restaurant, but we'd already eaten there and it wasn't that great, so I declined. They can put that toward a vacuum too. The pool was kind of yucky; my kids said there were hairballs in it. It was very chlorinated, and the smell was strong, but after seeing the room, I was glad the chemicals were strong enough to burn my nose hair. I don't know what the inspector checks, but cleanliness clearly wasn't it. Now my son is covered in bites. This place is trash.

We had a good time, and the prices were good, though it's no ten-star hotel. The rooms were okay quality, and the staff were helpful. The ceiling in the pool area was dirty, but I can understand that it's not easy to reach. I went here when I was younger but was sick, so I couldn't enjoy it much then. This time, we made a spontaneous trip to Fredericton. A wind storm passed through and the hotel lost power, but it wasn't a big deal. The staff still let us use the pool as long as we were okay with it being a little dark, and offered a free pool-table session to make up for the inconvenience.

We always enjoy visiting this hotel, which holds fond family memories for us. The courtyard still has the pond, and the staff were pleasant. We appreciated the great customer service and good food at the onsite restaurant. Our Double Queen suite was dated, especially the washroom, with its small jet tub and even smaller shower.
