Hotel Bedford

We had a horrible experience. We’d booked by phone for $135, but at check-in the receptionist said it would actually be $478. When we wouldn’t accept that price, the owner Mo came out from the back yelling at my mom, my sister, and me. He was disrespectful toward women, wouldn’t listen or offer a fair solution, and told us to cancel the reservation. The staff were rude, and the hotel was dirty. I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

There’s construction around the square right now, but everything was still accessible. This is one of the few original buildings left in the heart of the old town Goderich square, and it has a lot of charm. The exterior rooms are the ones to get; the inside rooms are smaller and cozier. The rooms feel dated, though the AC was cold, the TV was new with plenty of choices, and the mattress was really comfortable. The price was fair and good value. I’d recommend it to anyone who appreciates historic character and the convenience of a small town.

The room itself was comfortable, but a few things were frustrating during our Easter weekend in room 218. The Wi-Fi was free, though so slow that many pages I needed wouldn’t load. On Friday around 8 pm I went to the second-floor machines for a pop and ice, and the pop machine was empty. Staff said they’d refill it, but it was still empty around 10 Saturday night and remained that way Sunday. The bathroom sink had very low water pressure, and the hot tap never got past lukewarm.

I can appreciate an older hotel when it’s looked after, but this one was pretty awful. There was a strong fried chicken smell all through the stairwell and upper halls the whole time. Our room was missing the cord between the TV and cable box, and the inner shower curtain had a blood stain. Another guest even opened our door with their key card and walked in. Breakfast was as sparse as it gets. I wouldn’t come back.
