Gull Lake Lodge Motel

The timing worked out perfectly. I’d just left the restaurant while hitchhiking, and with the sun going down I figured nobody would pick me up. I spotted what looked like a motel and asked about the rates. The guy said 80 bucks, so I put it on the counter and got a good night’s sleep. He was friendly and let me stay at his fine establishment. I had a shower, watched some television, and would recommend the place.

The office clerk was a delight to talk with. Check-in was easy, and my room was clean and comfy. Gull Lake is pet friendly and the hospitality was lovely. The train can get a bit loud, but it’s a great price for a night.

The owner gave us water when we checked in and granola bars when we checked out. We arrived very late, but they still accommodated us, which we appreciated. We had both a non-smoking and a smoking room. The non-smoking room was clean and smelled nice, and it was decent for the price. The smoking and pet room was clean too, though I didn’t like the smell. We’d asked to be beside that room with my family, and it was a big room for us and the kids, so that was understandable. The location and services were typical for a small town, and we didn’t expect much. My kids were happy and comfortable, and our experience was great.

Summer was a great host, and the rooms were as clean as they could be for their age. They’re old, with slanted floors and beds that weren’t the most comfortable, but it felt like a safe, cute stop on our trip for the price and location. For $90 we got two queen beds, AC, a full bathroom, and free coffee. Five stars for friendliness and cleanliness. There’s a nice pub with great food about a 500 metre walk away. The train is pretty close, so bring ear plugs.
