The lakefront setup was a highlight, with a small beach, lounge chairs, life jackets, and free paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. The lake is small and weedy and muddy, though it gets deep in the middle. We took a paddle boat out and spotted turtles, while other guests were kayaking and canoeing. There are also little seating spots around the property and two fire pits. The hot tub was great after exploring, and fits about six people; the small conversation pool beside it was too cold in spring, so heating it in spring or fall might help. We stayed in a double queen motel room. It was clean and okay for a weekend, but small and dated, with little space for bags, basic toiletries, and lumpy, sagging beds that seem due for replacement. The larger fridge was useful for groceries. Staff explained that you have to toggle the hot water, and once we figured it out, the shower had strong pressure and stayed hot. The lodge across from the rooms was cozy, with a modern, well-stocked kitchen, shared showers, and outdoor BBQs. People cooking inside and out gave it a relaxed cottage feel. It was a quiet adults-only weekend over Victoria Day, the resort’s first weekend open for the season, and the property wasn’t crowded. We liked the calm atmosphere and 11 PM noise cutoff, though I wonder if it gets louder and rowdier in peak summer when the outdoor bar areas open. We called ahead about our late check-in and they accommodated us. Check-in itself was quick, and the rules were posted at the desk. Finding the entrance at night was hard: the area was dark, the driveway was hidden, and we drove past it once. More lighting or a lit sign would help late arrivals. It’s about 20 minutes from Bancroft and close to local sights and outdoor activities, so it worked well as a base. We enjoyed the stay and would recommend it for a peaceful getaway, especially in shoulder season. I’d be curious to see what the atmosphere is like in the busier summer months.

The resort was beautiful, and we stayed in the cozy cabin, which we really only needed for sleeping since we were outside the whole time. The lake is beautiful too. It felt very private, and the staff were friendly.

We had another quiet, quaint, relaxing visit and are already looking forward to our annual September trip. This was our second year at Footprints Resort, and the weather was perfect. The staff and owner are always friendly and available, and the bonfires are so peaceful. At night we even watched a beaver family in the water, slapping their tails and gathering material for their dams. Our room had been newly renovated and was very clean. We enjoyed the outdoor kitchen and BBQs, and there’s also a nice lodge if you prefer cooking inside. The hot tub was lovely as always, as was simply sitting by the lake with morning coffee. And we can’t forget the chipmunks, who love coming to visit! We met some new friends this year, too. Thanks to the owners and staff for always taking care of us. We’ll be back in September!

We stayed in our motorhome and had a look at the rooms. They were clean and nice, if quite utilitarian. There’s plenty of privacy here and the facilities are great.
