That old dining room, with its original 1800s architecture, gives you a lovely glimpse into the past. We had dinner at Elmhurst this past Tuesday after hearing good things about the food, and were seated promptly and offered cocktails right away. Brenda and Peter looked after our party attentively all evening. The desserts were a great finish. I had the tiramisu, probably the best I've ever had, while my wife and son both loved the caramel cheesecake and called it exceptional. The homemade desserts are said to be famous. After our meal, we had an after dinner drink, and Chef Philipe came over personally to ask how everything was. A nice touch. We all ordered the prime rib special, which we thought was a very good deal. First came a huge caeser salad, fresh romaine, oversized freshly cooked bacon bits, homemade croutons, and thin slices of good Parmesan. We each got a large bowl and could barely finish it. Then the prime rib arrived with au jus, Yorkshire pudding, a generous potato and vegetable dish. The Chef told me the beef is locally sourced, hand selected AAA/PRIME grade, and you could tell. Mine was perfectly medium rare as requested, moist and tender enough to cut with a butter knife. Dinner was a 10/10 for us, and we've already planned to book again in a couple of weeks. I'd recommend making a reservation if you're after a special meal.

The spa was upscale and delightful, and I had the best facial of my life there. I also enjoyed the windows and ambiance in my fireplace room, though I'd expected more of a traditional fireplace with crackling wood or real heat. It was gas and didn't get very warm, so next time I'd likely choose the jacuzzi room. I went on my own for two nights in January, booking the room, dinner at the on-site restaurant, and two spa services. The first night at the restaurant wasn't great, but the Chef and staff made up for it the next night with sincere apologies. It was a relaxing getaway overall, and I'd do it again.

We had a top notch stay at Elm Hurst, especially for a three-star inn. Our room was the Lord Connaught, with a private patio and a whole wall of windows facing the forest and creek valley. Dinner cost a lot, but the quality was there. My beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly, and our server was pleasant, attentive, and hospitable. There were local beers on tap, and service was excellent. The historic mansion and estate sit in a wooded spot just off the 401, about half an hour east of London, with a comfortable room extension that fits in well.

Lunch after our spa services was a real treat. The food and service both impressed us, especially the desserts prepared in house. They were hands down the best we've ever had. We also got to talk with the pastry chef who makes them himself, and you can taste the care and attention in every bite. From the moment we arrived at Elm Hurst Inn & Spa, the staff were warm and attentive and helped us feel relaxed and cared for. It was a memorable visit from start to finish, and we'll definitely return.

The hotel and spa were very quiet, which I appreciated, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. I went for brunch and a facial. The facial lasted 30 minutes, cost $99 plus tax, and was just okay. Brunch was $48 per person, including a mimosa and coffee or tea. It was decent, with an omelette station, breakfast items, roast beef that looked perfectly pink (I didn't try it), pork and fish options, and some nice Pacific smoked salmon. There were enough cold options, one soup, a chocolate fountain I skipped, at least eight desserts, and a crepe station. The cheese choices were terrible, just marble and another indistinct cheese with the same texture and no flavor. For the price, I expected better. The coffee was about as bad as coffee can get.
