It was easy to settle in here, and the peaceful lakeside setting gave us plenty of space to unwind. We stayed two nights in November, when it was cold and rainy, and still enjoyed every minute. We'd like to come back in summer to see how it feels then. There are no TVs, radios, or clocks in the rooms, which suited my plan to disconnect. The room's Wi-Fi was too weak to use, though the main house had a strong signal and lots of comfortable common areas. There are tea stations with a great range of bags, loose teas, and sweeteners, plus an espresso machine. The five newer rooms attached to the main house, including ours, have lake views, very firm beds, adjustable heat, and heated bathroom tile you can control. Room experiences may differ elsewhere on the property. Our pets were welcomed, even added to the guest board with our names. The staff were wonderful. They checked in several times beforehand about the details of our Love Couple’s Retreat package. Janet, the general manager, was warm and helpful, and worked with us on a couple of small pet-fee issues. A live-in chef made fresh, delicious meals, and everyone else we met was friendly too. We spent time exploring the property and enjoyed the artwork and sculptures, the group seating areas, and the resident dog and two cats, who were all friendly. The other buildings are open to guests too: a beautiful large yurt and a circular activity space with lake-facing glass windows, good for yoga, calisthenics, or group activities. Outside, there's a wood-fired sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub. They looked well cared for, but are uncovered, and we couldn't find built-in lights, so bring a light if you're going after hours. A stone path goes down to a large dock with seating on Kootenay lake, where you can swim. The pines make the place feel tucked away, with no traffic noise, just the sound of the water. It's peaceful and secluded, but local hot springs are a 12 minute drive away, and Kaslo has a few nice restaurants, a gas station, and stores. We had a great time at the property, in town, and at the hot springs. If you're after a quiet place to get away from the rush of everyday life, slow down and relax here.

We first stumbled on this place a few years ago, and during a morning walk around the grounds, my boyfriend and I promised we'd come back for a small wedding ceremony when we were ready. Last weekend, we did just that and eloped. The Sentinel felt like our place to connect and celebrate. My family came along, and they were just as struck by the beauty of this tucked-away spot. The staff, food, rooms, and amenities all made the stay a spark for the senses. Janet and her team at the sentinel are loving, beautiful, radiant people. You can go deep and connect here, or just have a fire and enjoy the calm and quiet. Everyone in our group gave it 10/10. We'll return for anniversaries, and next time our child will be earth side. Love and light xo from the newly wed Shaw’s.

The rooms have lovely views, but people walk right past the big windows. You end up choosing between closing the blinds and losing the view, or having people look into your room. The walls are thin too, so sounds from the hall and neighboring rooms carry. The hotel wing's design could use some rethinking. The Sentinel's peaceful, nature-filled setting is quiet and calming, and the people are incredibly welcoming. I also loved the luxurious linens and beautiful soaps. The hospitality and setting are outstanding, though privacy and soundproofing are worth keeping in mind when booking.

Our first anniversary was a special time we'll remember. I had an amazing stay at the Sentinel with my wife and our dog. We'd planned to spend lots of time hiking off site, but once we arrived, we changed our minds. The well-kept grounds have plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the outdoors, and we especially loved the lake dock and hot tub. The beds were very stiff, which could be good or bad depending on what you like. If you prefer softer, maybe bring a topper. We'll be back, and I'd recommend it 100%.

I've stayed in the rooms and camped here, and the rooms are lovely, with super-comfy beds and luxurious pillows and bedding. The cedar sauna and hot tub are top-notch. The lake views are breathtaking, and the location is amazing. I've had incredible stays and retreats at the Sentinel. The food is delicious, nutritious, and healing, and all the staff are helpful and really friendly. I highly recommend a visit. You won't be disappointed.
