Kenosee Inn

The view was amazing, and the room was clean, smelled fresh, and had comfortable beds. I stayed a couple of nights while working in the village, and the staff were friendly enough. The complimentary breakfast could use a bit more upkeep, since some things in the fridge weren’t very fresh. I know winter is slow here and food doesn’t move quickly. The restaurant is quite expensive, though the portions are generous. I had delicious fish and chips, and the caesar salad was delicious too.

The restaurant was the best part of our stay. The staff were helpful and friendly, and when I needed white rice for my 15-month-old daughter, the chef made some himself. I’d give the restaurant five stars. Parking was convenient, and the location right on Kenosee Lake beach was great, with a lake view from the room. The rooms need deep cleaning and renovation. Our first room hadn’t been properly cleaned after the previous guest: food was scattered beside the bed, and there was poop floating in the toilet. The manager changed our room immediately after we complained. The second was better, but still not clean enough. The sheets and pillowcases probably hadn’t been changed, and the balcony had scattered coffee cups, cans, and magazines. The carpet was dirty, so we couldn’t let our baby crawl on it. We killed three big spiders, one small one, and a few other bugs. I’m scared of spiders, and one night I woke to see a big one walking along the edge of my blanket right beside my pillow. I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night. We called housekeeping, but they seemed to lack basic cleaning sense. They arranged towels after cleaning the toilet without changing gloves, and carried a toilet brush dripping water onto the carpet.

The beach and park are still hard to beat. Our family spent many happy summers at Kenosee Lake years ago, but I can’t say the same about the hotel management. I emailed several days ago with questions about a possible long-term stay at the hotel or cabins and haven’t received any reply. It’s not a good first impression. I like having information by email so I can refer back to it or print it. If they can’t follow up on email questions, I’d suggest removing that option from the site. And yes, I checked both spam and trash. Nothing there either. 😕

The rooms were a little dated, but it was great overall.
