Wild Goose Motel and Campground

I was pleasantly surprised after reading the reviews. The room was already clean and warm, and the shower had good pressure and heated up quickly. It had a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee machine, which not every cheaper place offers. The Wi-Fi was good, and I was happy with my stay. My only real complaint is that the channel selection wasn’t very good.

The facilities weren’t available when we arrived. After checking in and paying, we were told we couldn’t use the washrooms, and the laundry room was closed too. We had to call for the Wi-Fi password and were given two different ones, but the connection kept dropping in and out. No one told us a checkout time, either. I tried to get help on Friday afternoon, but they’d already closed for the weekend. The campground itself was disappointing. There aren’t many trees to give campers privacy, and the picnic tables are old, with some warped. There were no fire pits, and when we decided to buy a portable one, we were told it wasn’t allowed. The price felt high for mid-September, especially with the facilities unavailable and little usage. We’d look for another campground if we’re in the area again.

I rented a two-bedroom, one-bath place here for work for 700, unfurnished. Furnished units are 950 plus power, and internet is included for both. Pretty decent if you need somewhere to stay, compared with Golden Prairie Lodge at 60 a day.

This was over 20 years ago, but I still remember being grateful to the Wild Goose Motel. I was driving to Alberta for work and reached Kerrobert in the darkest part of the night when I clipped a porcupine waddling along the highway shoulder. My right front tire was full of quills, and I could hear air slowly hissing out. I checked it, then saw the town lights and wondered what could possibly be open at that hour. The Wild Goose Motel was. I left the car at the service station across the street, got a room, and slept like a baby. By the time I’d finished toast and coffee at the diner the next morning, my tire had been patched and I was on my way. Thanks, Wild Goose Motel!
