You can fish right off the wharf and cook on the provided BBQ, or make use of the cooking facilities in your room. I loved the patios and the way you can step straight outdoors. The grounds feel like a piece of British Columbia's Pacific West Coast Wilderness, with a wharf, an outdoor fire area, sunshine, and a jacuzzi to enjoy. It’s pet- and family-friendly, with attentive hosts who help you get your bearings. The rates are good for a simple overnight stay, and there are plenty of extras that make you want to stay longer and return. Where else can you find riverfront access, cooking amenities, and jacuzzis at this price?

The people were nice, but that was the only good part. The room was freezing and only had two tiny space heaters. The “Spa” suite had a single, basement-style window. The jacuzzi smelled overwhelmingly of bleach and ran out of hot water before it was full. They also charged a $35 pet fee. Finding one black hair from a stranger between the sheets was the final straw. I’d rather sleep in my car.

We stayed with friends in a roomy, comfortable two-bedroom suite with a kitchenette. The backyard was gorgeous, with a dock right on the Cowichan River.

The place was easy to get to from almost anywhere in Lake Cowichan, and very kid-friendly. My family and I had a relaxing time together by the lake. We’re considering coming back over winter break.
