Amber Hotel

The front desk team at Amber Hotel made a real impression on me. After I checked out, I realized I’d left behind my headphones, which I use every day and needed for my travels. I called, and the receptionist found them, checked they were mine, and arranged to get them back to me quickly. They kept me informed and were genuinely thoughtful throughout. I still felt looked after after I’d left. The rooms and amenities were nice too, but that kind of care and attention is what sets a stay apart. Amber Hotel is a lovely property, and I’d happily return. Highly recommend it for the comfort, location, and staff.

The shower was moldy and so unpleasant that I had to wear sandals, and the bedding wasn’t clean enough for me to trust without a close inspection. The rooms are tiny, and there’s no bathroom fan. Amber Hotel might work if you just need an inexpensive place to sleep, but I’d rather pay more for a cleaner, more comfortable stay.

I was traveling with my three-month-old daughter and arrived an hour late for check-in because of traffic. The family running the place took our money, offered neither another night nor another stay, and left us sitting outside until we finally left. It felt very sketchy. I run businesses myself and would never recommend this hotel. Thank you.

The second time I stayed here was awful, and I won’t be back. The first visit had been just okay, so I gave the place another chance when I returned to Grand Bend. The price seemed decent, too. On that first stay, housekeeping knocked at 10 a.m. about room service. I said no through the door, but they came in anyway because there was no deadbolt. I was still in bed and mortified. They apologized as they left. This time the room looked clean at first, but the bathroom shower was covered in black mold and smelled musty. I took photos and went to speak with the staff. They offered a refund, but didn’t acknowledge how dirty the room was or the seriousness of black mold, and didn’t apologize. They just said, “It is what it is,” and didn’t seem surprised. With nowhere else to go at short notice, I stayed and tried not to use the bathroom or shower. That night I turned on the AC and woke to dripping. Water was leaking from the unit above the door and had made a huge puddle. I put towels underneath it because it was 34 degrees Celsius outside and sleeping without AC wasn’t an option. I was extremely disappointed.
