Seacliffe Inn

We had a lake-view room and were just steps from the beach. The inn was charming, clean, and had lovely staff. We stayed one night over Thanksgiving and loved it. I can’t imagine choosing anywhere else when I’m in the area.

I booked a double room upstairs at The Seacliffe Inn, right by Lake Erie in Leamington. The windows opened out over the water, and there was a cozy bar just below. The room felt spacious and thoughtfully put together, with an inviting feel throughout. Those views make you want to stay forever. I can’t recommend it enough.

Great location, but I was very disappointed. The view was of the parking lot, the bed was hard with springs sticking into me, and the floor was sticky. The toilet was very low. The TV was a 32” set with manual volume and not many channels. No coffee machine in the room, and we had to carry luggage up to the second floor. The restaurant was closed because it was Sunday, and the place needs major renovation. 😢

The receptionist was lovely and helpful. Checkout was at 11am, but when we asked, she let us stay until 3pm at no extra charge. We also asked for disposable plates and cutlery, which they didn’t have, so she went to the attached restaurant and brought up real plates and cutlery for us. The room seemed beautiful at first, with lots of space and a fireplace. Then we noticed the fridge hadn’t been wiped after the previous use: there were sticky red drops and a ring mark. A large grimey thumbprint on the bedside lamp could be scratched off with a nail, and there was a fairly large woodchip under the bed blanket. The free Wi-Fi didn’t really work; my devices showed “connected without Internet”. We were choosing between a lake-view room for ~$315 and one without a view for ~$260. We asked the receptionist about the view, and though she said it was okay, her expression suggested otherwise, so we chose the room without one. I was excited about the accommodation at first, but the more I noticed, the more disappointed I felt. I’d paid ~$60 less at a Best Western for a much better experience.
