Hotel DeOro

We had a comfortable stay in a nice, clean room, and the staff were accommodating and respectful. There was ample free parking, and we had a great view of Lillooet.

The rooms were okay, nothing special, but the check-in was painful and put me off returning. I had paid through booking.com, and the charge had left my account and was being held by them. The staff member said my card was declined. I explained that the problem was the hotel couldn't collect the money from booking.com, but she told me to call them and refused to deal with it. I used to work in the industry, so I knew this was between the hotel and booking.com. After I spent 20 minutes waiting and speaking to different people, booking.com confirmed the property needed to contact them. The staff member still argued until I handed the phone to her and let the agent explain.

We stopped at the cafe and loved it. The couple were so sweet, their kid took our order, and the whole family was kind and quick. They made really great drinks, too. I also appreciated that they were open on a stat holiday, when they were the only place with coffee available. We'll be back!

Our room was quite dirty, and there were a lot of comments reporting bed bugs. Check-in was frustrating from the start: the reception was empty when we arrived, and we waited 10 minutes for a staff member to come back with a takeout order. After we got a key, we heard four people talking in the room. We didn't open the door and went back for help. The staff member didn't understand English and blamed us, asking where we'd booked and how we knew people were inside if we hadn't opened the door. They initially refused to admit there'd been a mistake or take responsibility. Eventually, they noticed the booking name wasn't on the key, which was still at reception, and gave us another room. Communication was very difficult, they wouldn't take responsibility, and it seemed like they were hiding that other rooms were available.
