My kid still remembers the retro feel from our F1 weekend stay a few years ago, when he was five. The staff were nice, and we didn’t feel any animosity about not speaking French. Breakfast was nothing fancy, but it hit the spot.

The rooms were meant to be ready around 3pm, from what I recall, but my family and I, along with two other families, waited in the lobby with our luggage for nearly an hour and a half. We’d flown across the country for a summer trip to Montreal and had planned our time carefully. I told the front desk we had event tickets for 6pm and needed to get ready. They said the rooms seemed ready but were waiting for a system update. After all that time, we ended up with different rooms, and nobody seemed to know what they were doing. I asked for a complimentary convertible sofa bed because of the service we’d had on arrival. The desk clerk said she’d ask the manager, who turned it down. It wasn’t because they had none available, they said it would cost $20/night. I didn’t want to pay more after such a bad experience. The only good part was talking with the male cook. Somebody should give him a raise for having to come back to this hotel every morning. I’d give this zero stars if I could. They gave us awful service and did nothing to make up for it. I’d rather have stayed in a motel, and I won’t come back.

The room felt like the start of a scary movie when I walked in. It was isolated, basically out in the woods, with horrible views and only five people staying that night. They say the rooms are smoke-free, but mine stunk of cigar and smoke, and it looked old and raggedy. When I cancelled the reservation, they didn’t return my $250 deposit. I didn’t enjoy this hotel at all.

Everything in the room worked as it should, and it was clean when we arrived. I was very pleased with the room and service during our weekend visit to Montreal. The staff were kind and answered our questions about hotel services and places nearby. It’s in a great location, and I’d consider staying again.

The place has good beds with box springs, spacious rooms, lots of nice furnishings, and plenty of free parking. Most things seemed in decent repair. Still, the building feels stuck in 1980, and we noticed an odour right away that might have been coming from the carpeting. From our fifth-floor window, we could also see debris and disrepair on the roof. Some of the operating costs seem tightly controlled. Coffee in the lobby costs extra, and the continental breakfast came on plates with limited, pre-measured portions. Items were prepared and heated just before serving. There was no regular bacon, only turkey bacon, though I did spot at least one vending machine in the lobby with instant noodles. You can get hot water for free, but unfortunately there are no plastic forks or spoons. The price was okay, and the location could be useful if downtown Montreal is busy. The good beds were a plus, but that’s about it for us.
