I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible and didn’t even use the shower. The place reeked of smoke, and nothing seemed to work properly. The TV wouldn’t turn off, so I had to unplug it, along with the lights since there were no switches. The toilet paper holder had come off the wall, and the staircase was dirty with ripped carpeting. They should be asking the city public health department to inspect this place. We should be asking them for a deposit, not the other way around.

With hotels and motels filling up quickly, I was glad to find a last-minute room with double beds over the weekend, and I’m thankful for the hospitality at hotel L'express. Still, the room had three fridges and no microwave, which seemed odd. The facial towel had a black stain, and there was hair in the tub along with shampoo and conditioner left by previous guests. I’d suggest some deep maintenance at the property.

The sheets and shower were clean, and the guy running the place was helpful and nice. It worked for what we needed, a cheaper room for the sports tournament we were attending in Montreal with the boys. It’s about a half-hour drive from downtown, which wasn’t too bad for us, though I wouldn’t make it my first hotel choice. Our first room had an AC unit leaking water onto the couch, and the manager switched us to another room without any fuss. The second room had orange-yellow grime running down the walls, and the ice bucket under the bed was being used as a trash can for cigarette butts. We’d been told there was no smoking, and I have no idea how long that stuff had been there.

It’s a little out of the way, but the hotel was quiet, the rooms were clean, and the Wi-Fi was good. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. We were disappointed to learn from the morning desk clerk that the on-site kitchen and restaurant are closed on Mondays. Apart from that, I’d definitely recommend it. It’s LGBTQ2 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 friendly.
