Sunshine Lodge

We were here for a kids’ hockey tournament, and the staff were great with the children. We had the whole motel, so the kids could run around. The location is central, and the coffee was great too. The rooms are being renovated and could use some work, but I’ll wait to judge until it’s finished. The staff’s attitude deserves five stars.

We stayed at Sunshine twice while visiting Gibson's and Powell River, and both rooms were comfortable and roomy enough for our needs. The first time we were at the back of the hotel, which was very quiet. When we came back, we got one of the recently renovated rooms at the front, and the upgrades were very nice. I’d stay in either room again. The staff were kind and helpful, and I loved how central the location is. Wheatberries bakery is just around the corner.

There’s a really comfortable feel to this place, and the price is excellent. The owners are new and making improvements, though it’s fine as it is. The rooms are big and comfortable, with decent soaps and well equipped kitchenettes. There’s a nice pool area, and plenty of places nearby for lunch or dinner. The staff are friendly and helpful. Stay here, but keep it to yourself.

We hoped for a quiet getaway in October 2025, but spent two days listening to vacuuming and blower noise. The rooms were okay and smelled of cleaner when we arrived. The next day, they didn’t clean the room until we asked in the afternoon. Staff were friendly but incompetent. We won’t be back.
