Tidal Bore Inn

If you like a retro kind of hotel, this place is definitely worth checking out. It has that old-time feel and is very clean and well maintained. Lisa and Bill are fantastic hosts.

The view was lovely, and we were happy to have found this quaint, clean little gem. It’s a bit older, but that’s part of its charm. We’re from out of province and made the decision to stay here at the last minute. The owner in the office was prompt, kind, and helpful when sorting out our reservation and room. We’d booked through a third-party site and hit a small issue, but it got resolved. We’re so glad we chose this spot. Wela'lioq.

The room was quiet, comfortable, and very clean, and the property had a peaceful, scenic view. For the price, it did its job, but I felt unwelcome every time I interacted with someone there. I don’t usually review places, but I’ve started keeping track of my travel experiences, good and bad. I stayed one night recently. When I called to confirm the booking and ask about early check-in, the man was dismissive. He told me things like “it should be in your email” and “you don’t need to confirm.” When I asked about check-in time, he said, “that should be on your reservation,” then eventually told me it was 3 pm. I understand early check-in isn’t always possible, and that part was fine, but his manner made it uncomfortable to ask anything. At check-in, the same man was standoffish and unnecessarily confrontational. The booking site only let me enter one traveler’s name, but I arrived with my boyfriend. He started with, “the reservation says one,” then added, “but I see two of you standing here.” I explained the site’s limitation, but it felt like he was looking for a problem instead of offering even basic hospitality. Later, a woman called down from an upper floor while we were walking near the chairs by the cliffside and asked if we were guests. When I said yes, she told us not to walk over the cliff. I understand the safety concern, but the warning was abrupt and unnecessary since we hadn’t gone near the edge. I’ve seen similar experiences mentioned in other reviews, and I think that says a lot.

The hosts were wonderful, friendly, and helpful, and they gave us great ideas for where to eat and what to do. The Inn is very retro and old school, not fancy at all, but that’s exactly what made it perfect for us. It was clean, comfortable, and great value. Highly recommend if you don’t care about fancy.
