Best Western Maple Ridge Hotel

They took an extra $300 as a security deposit after I booked a room for my girlfriend for $205, and promised to return it. A week later, when I called, they told me to wait longer. I never got the money back, and reception cuts off the call when you ring. The Indian girl at reception was abusive and unprofessional. I'm going to sue them.

I live nearby and needed a room for one night. The hotel sits back from the street, which is handy for the highway and keeps it from being too noisy. It was nice and very clean. The beds seem to be on metal box springs, and they creak a lot in a strange way.

The updated room itself was nice, but a loud creak from the bed every time we got in or out made sleeping difficult. The rest of the stay was disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend this Hotel for families. At the pool, a homeless man was using the shower to wash himself and change clothes, with all his bags in the pool area. Our family felt very uncomfortable. We also tried the hotel's only washer and dryer. After more than an hour drying, our clothes were still wet and smelled strongly of dog urine. I reported it to staff, but the man at the front desk couldn't speak or understand English. Even if he had understood, he showed no concern or willingness to help. Poor management and basic cleanliness and guest safety issues ruined what could have been a decent stay.

Our late check-in already felt unsettling. Ambulance lights were flashing and a stretcher was going past, while the front desk looked clueless and didn't seem to try to help. Then a police car dropped a man at the entrance. We wondered what kind of place we'd paid for, but stayed to see how bad it could be. The room answered that pretty quickly. Dust sat in the corners, silverfish were crawling around, and the bed squeaked loudly with every move. Outside seemed shady, with deals going on and people acting strangely. I kept peeking through the curtain, uneasy, and couldn't sleep. At 2:30, the alarm suddenly went off. Someone had left food in the microwave too long and smoke filled the whole place. We waited outside, half asleep and cold, in our pajamas with a group of strangers. It was nearly an hour before we could go back in. A cheap stay can turn into a full nightmare, and this one did.
