Goodman's Motel

Tim Hortons, McDonald’s, and a gas station are all close by, which made food and fuel easy to get. The motel was clean, spacious, and well maintained, with what I needed for a comfortable stopover. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere felt warm. The owners seem to take pride in good service. A solid place for a short stay or if you’re passing through.

Goodmans Motel used to be a nice place, but our stay was awful. The owner was rude whenever they spoke with us, and the room was filthy. There was a hair elastic in the bed that wasn’t mine, the water smelled like rotten eggs, and after using the only fork in the room I got a cold sore. I plan to complain to the town of Baldwin because the owners don’t seem to care about the water. The young man cleaning rooms tried to come in without knocking. We heard something, looked over, and saw him with the door partly open and his face inside. What if we’d been naked? The next day, the older man in the office tried to enter another room with guests in it. When he noticed us watching, he fumbled around, then asked if we’d seen the Hydro One worker staying there. Hydro One workers stay here when they’re working in the area. I’m also planning to call Hydro One and the police station right next door about what I saw, because it looked like someone from the motel was trying to sneak into their rooms while they were at work.

The owner first asked for $159 plus tax, then agreed to $110 plus tax when we said we wanted to leave, before we’d even looked at the room. Too bad we stayed. The sheets and towels weren’t washed, and the pillowcases looked unwashed too. The pillows were extremely thin, and the blanket was too thin for the room temperature. We’d have been better off sleeping in the car.

Check-in was smooth, and the staff were friendly. My room at Goodman’s Motel was comfortable and clean, with all the basics I needed. It was great value for the price.
